49 Flowers (Session 1)

Zachari Logan – Regina, Canada

On June 25th 2016, Zachari Logan completed a durational drawing performance, in conjunction with Nuit Rose, Toronto’s Queer Arts Festival and his exhibition Forgotten Selves at Paul Petro Contemporary Art. Members of the public were invited to select a cut flower from a large floral arrangement and sit with the artist for a fifteen-minute portrait-drawing session. Logan drew the flower as a portrait of the bearer. Logan’s goal to produce forty-nine drawings commemorating the lives of those lost in the Orlando/ PULSE tragedy was realized by drawing continually from noon on the 25th of June to 2:30am June 26th, 2016. These drawings were made available to the public for purchase with proceeds benefiting an Orlando charity. Logan will restage this performative gesture at Performatorium in efforts to once again reach a total of 49 drawings, this time over a period of 3 sessions of drawing over three days. These drawings will be once again available for purchase (through Slate Fine Art Gallery in Regina) with proceeds to benefit an Orlando charity.
